Some of you may be wondering why you should choose to initiate within our Sosyete, when comparing to others. Why is our Sosyete so great? What do we have to offer to you that is better than others? We also wonder what candidates have to contribute to our Sosyete in return.

First off, let me tell you a little about myself, Houngan Hector. Anyone who knows me will tell you the same that I am about to tell you. I am a straight up person. (For those of you who don't know what this means, it means that what you see is what you get) Personally, I tell everyone, I do not have time for drama, gossip, and lying. I have, as I am sure you do as well, better things to do with my time. One of my most basic and most important tenets which I follow in my life is to "Do unto others as I would have them do unto me". I am also a very blunt person, thus I don't beat around the bush. I call things as I see them, and I don't sugar coat.

If you are looking for sugar coating, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for someone to tell you things in a roundabout way, this is not the place for you. I have no time for such nonsense, and I know you also have no time for it. Now, on the other hand, I am a pretty laid-back type of person, and I love to enjoy life.

Second, when I initiate you into Vodou (or any other tradition in which I have a lineage) I am making you a member of my family. In my eyes, we will not be just a spiritual family, we are a blood family. As I tell everyone who is looking to become a part of this family, I will also tell you. Families do not always like each other, but we have to love each other. No questions.

Thirdly, and most importantly, initiation cannot give you what you don't already have. I must stress this! When I say this, I mean quite simply, that if you do not have a path in Vodou, initiation will not create one for you. I don't care how much money you have, you cannot and will not be able to purchase an initiation in my house. Giving you an initiation you are not called for will just bring me headaches later.

If you are looking for a drama free house, where initiates take care of one another, where people love each other, you have come to the right place. If you are looking for a House where you can grow and develop spiritually, you have come to the right place. If you are looking to learn Vodou, in the correct and traditional way, you have come to the right place. If you are looking for a House that will divine your path and point you in the right direction, you have found it.

Before one can become a member in this Sosyete, divination is required. Divination like this does a number of things for you and for the Sosyete. First, we divine what path is right for you. Our House has the Haitian Vodou lineage (Asson and non asson), Dominican Vodou (21 Divisions) lineage, Sanse, and White Table Espiritismo. If one of these is within your path, we will let you know. If divination shows that you have another path to follow, whether that be American Witchcraft, Palo Mayombe, Santeria, or any other path, we will also let you know. We will do our best to point you in the direction of knowledgeable and honest people who practice those other traditions.

Second, we divine what level of initiation will be right for you. In Sanse, there is only one level of initiation, so if the first divination shows that to be your route then this second one is not necessary. In Dominican Vodou, there are three different ceremonies of initiation that one may fall into. In Haitian Vodou, there are four. We will accurately divine which one of these levels, in whichever path, you are to be initiated at. Initiating at a level that is too high for you can be detrimental to you. Initiating at a level that is too low can cause you to fall back in your evolution.

Third, we divine if you are to be a member of our House, meaning are you meant to receive your initiation with us. Just because you found us, doesn't necessarily mean that we will be the best fit for you. If divination shows that yes, you can become an initiate with us we will let you know that. If not, but you still need the initiation, we know a number of reliable and honest houses that we can refer you to, who are able to lead you in the right direction.

When you become a part of this Sosyete, you are a member for life. We will not see you living in the street. We will not see you hungry and thirsty. We will not abandon you in sickness. We will take care of you. I will be your Papa and you will have plenty of brothers and sisters to look out for you as well as for you to look out for. We are all adults. We all come together to serve the Spirits when we decide to become a part of Vodou. That means that in our House, we leave drama, personal issues, and gossip outside. Only love, devotion and service come inside. We have all come together to grow spiritually and as such that is exactly what we intend to do, and will do when we come together for ceremonies.

Outside of ceremonies, we enjoy each other's company. We go to the movies, we go shopping, eat together at restaurants, and sometimes do other things. We hold barbeques, play and laugh with each other. We are generally a fun crowd. Being spiritual doesn't mean that you always have to be serious (Gede is a perfect teacher of that principle!). There are times when we must be serious, and we are, and there are times when we have fun.
